Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated Rising Kashmir 2017, a 4-day exhibition at SKICC, Srinagar here today. Speaking on the occasion, he said that horticulture sector is playing pivotal role in boosting the economy of the country with dedicated efforts of scientists and farmers who are working in close coordination by adopting new techniques and hybrid varieties of fruits which have great market demand.
The Union Minister was accompanied by Shri Shamsher Singh Manhas MP Rajya Sabha. “The exhibition will transfer the technological know- how and innovation to the visitors which is the need of the hour,” Manhas said.
On the occasion, the Union Minister visited the ICAR and other stalls and evinced keen interest in them. The demonstration of varieties and technologies developed by ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture; ICAR-IGFRI, RRS-Srinagar; and ICAR-NBPGR Reg. Stn. were main attractions among the visitors. Apart from horticultural crops, the publications were also displayed by the ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture, New Delhi.
The quiz based on agriculture was also organised in ICAR stall during the exhibition. To encourage the young minds, a pavilion has been set up, where students from various schools have displayed their innovative models and ideas.
