The organized the 2nd National Seminar –cum-Farmers Fair (28-30 April 2017) organized by ICAR-National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur in collaboration with the Society for Advancement of Research on Pomegranate (SARP) concludes here today.
Shri Subhas Deshmukh, Cabinet Minister, Textiles and Marketing, Govt of Mahrashtra graced the valedictory function as the Chief Guest. The Minister appreciated the research activities of the Institute. He later inaugurated trainees hostel and released promising pomegranate hybrids viz. Solapur Lal having high Iron and Zinc content and Solapur Anardana having high content of natural acid and antioxidants developed by ICAR-NRCP
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), Guest of Honor, appreciated the various scientific and technological accomplishments of ICAR-NRCP Solapur which can play significant role in doubling farmers income and complemented all the scientific, technical, administrative and supporting staff for these achievements. A mobile app entitled “Solapur Anar” in 6 Indian languages was also launched by the Dr Mohapatra.
Dr. A.K.Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Dr. W.S Dhillon, ADG (HS-1), Dr. S.P.Ghosh, former DDG (Hort), ICAR also graced the occassion as special Guests of honour.
Vice-Chancellors of State Agricultural Universities, Directors of ICAR Research Institutes, Officers of KVK attended the valedictory programme,
About 500 farmers and delegates from all over India witnessed the event.
Earlier, the seminar was inaugurated by Shri Prof. K.L.Chadha, former DDG (Hort), ICAR and president of Horticulture Society of India, Delhi.
About 300 delegates including more than 150 progressive pomegranate growers from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telengana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarpradesh, Bihar, Delhi and Tamil Nadu actively participated in the seminar.
