ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal celebrated World Water Day on 21st March, 2015 with a view to aware the farmers about the importance of water and its sustainable use. Sh. S.K. Jain, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Chandigarh and Chief Guest of the function, informed the farmers about the aquifer mapping which will provide important information of availability of water and its quality up to 1000 m depth in a particular area.
Dr. D.K. Sharma Director, ICAR-CSSRI highlighted that under limited available resources and increasing cost of cultivation, the Institute has developed a multi-enterprise agriculture model which could help in multiple use of water.
Dr. S.K. Kamra, Head, Division of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering informed in his lecture that 40 per cent water is of good quality and 60 percent of brackish in Haryana.. He also explained about the ground water recharge technology which can help in increasing the availability of ground water in future.. On this occasion, Nukar Natak on Jal Hi Jivan Hai was also played.
About 200 farmers, scientists and extension workers participated in this important event.
