ICAR-IIRR and CSIR-CCMB jointly Awarded S&T Innovations for Rural Development-2013

CAIRD_Award-2016-IIRR_and_CCMB.jpgICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad and CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad were jointly awarded the prestigious CSIR Award “S&T Innovations for Rural Development” during the CSIR Platinum Jubilee Foundation Day function at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today.

Dr Harsh Vardhan,, Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences; Shri Y.S. Chowdary, Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences); Dr. Girish Sahni, Director General, CSIR and Secretary (DSIR) conferred the award to Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Director, CSIR-CCMB and Dr. V. Ravindra Babu, Director ICAR-IIRR, who received the award on behalf of the respective Institutes.

Dr. Ramesh V. Sonti and Dr. R.M. Sundaram were team leaders from CSIR-CCMB and ICAR-IIRR respectively.

The award is for the development and effective dissemination of a high yielding, fine-grained, bacterial blight resistant variety- Improved Samba Mahsuri, which is now grown in over 90,000 ha in bacterial blight endemic areas in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh, a plaque and citation.
