ICAR-National Research Centre for Citrus, Nagpur organized the 13th Rashtriya Kisan Mela on Citrus during 30-31st October, 2014.
Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director General, Horticultural Science, ICAR was the chief guest of the event. In his inaugural address, he said, scientists should educate the farmers to increase the productivity of citrus fruits. The scientists should also focus on production, grading, packaging and market intelligence to help farmers to get value for their produce.
Dr. C. D. Mayee, Former VC, VNMAU, Parbhani & Former Chairman, ASRB while presiding the event expressed that in order to improve the production and quality of citrus fruits NRCC should develop rapid and simple diagnostic techniques apart from kits to test pesticides & fertilizers.
Dr. M. S. Ladaniya, Director of NRCC in his introductory remark gave a background for organising the Kisan Mela and elaborated the farmer friendly technologies developed by the Centre
Two custodian farmers Shri Shridhar P. Solav and Shri Rajendra Karale from Bargaon village, Tah. Warud in Amravati Distt. Were felicitated under the UNEP/GEF funded project.
Scientists of the Centre presented briefly about the new technologies on various aspects of citrus cultivation.
More than 231 entries of fruit samples were received from different part of the country. There were in all 22 stalls from various ICAR institutes, SAUs and Private firms who showcased their technologies in the exhibition.
Apart from visit of farmesr to the orchard, a Vichar Goshti was also organised.
More than 1000 Citrus growers from five states viz. Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan participated.
