Hands-on-Training Programme on “Semen Evaluation Techniques and Nutritional Management of Breeding Bulls” concludes

The Short-Term Hands-on-Training Programme on “Semen Evaluation Techniques and Nutritional Management of Breeding Bulls” organized by the ICAR-National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru, Karnataka from 2nd to 4th December, 2021 concluded today.

The programme was organized in association with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Karnataka for the benefits of the Veterinarians and Technicians working in the Frozen Semen Banks.

Delivering the valedictory address, the Chief Guest, Dr. R.N. Sreenivas Gowda, Former Vice-chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary and Animal Sciences University highlighted the current challenges in improving the reproductive efficiency of dairy animals in Artificial Insemination Programme and producing high quality semen for improving the field fertility. He also suggested regular capacity building training for Semen Bank Personnel for improving their technical skills at the National Institutes like ICAR-NIANP was also suggested by Dr. Gowda.

Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR-NIANP stressed on the need for assessing the semen quality accurately  and eliminating the low/sub fertile Bulls from the breeding programme of dairy cows and buffaloes for improving the reproductive efficiency.

The programme organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence was aimed at providing the Hands-on-Training to the Veterinary Professionals and Technicians working in the Bull Semen Bank.

A total of 14 participants from 4 Frozen Semen Banks of Karnataka participated in the programme.
