Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized a training programme (10-15th March, 2014) on ‘Poultry Production and Disease Management’ for extension officers working with tribal farmers of Orissa. The program was sponsored by NGO ‘Swarna Jyoti Women Poultry Co-operative Federation Ltd., Parabeda, Jeypur, Koraput, Orissa.
In his address, Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, DPR emphasized the need of such training programs for creating awareness and enhancing the productivity of backyard poultry farming.
Participants were exposed to various activities related to poultry farming with more emphasis on disease management, diagnosis and treatment. Scientists delivered lectures on relevant topics. In practical session with hands on training they discussed on various aspects of backyard poultry production viz.; using improved crosses, common diseases of poultry, diagnosis, management and prevention, post-mortem examination, poultry farm and hatchery management, feed formulation, duck production and management etc. Ten extension workers participated in the programme.
