Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India organized a Three-day (26th-28th February, 2014) Eastern Zone Regional Agricultural Fair, 2013-14 at Central Institute of Rice Research (CRRI), Cuttack.
Dr. Mangala Rai, Agriculture Advisor to Chief Minister of Bihar and Former Director General, ICAR inaugurated the fair. In his address, Dr. Rai raised vital issues of future agriculture and suggested ways and means to improve the carbon content of the soil for sustainable production and sound health of the soil. He called upon the scientists to innovate technology in order to enhance water productivity and popularize integrated farming system for ensuing livelihood security. Dr. Mangala Rai also inaugurated the exhibition and released RAF Souvenir on ‘Rice-based Farming System for Food and Nutrition Security’.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director, CRRI and Chairman of RAF elaborated the objectives and importance of RAF at the outset and outlined the activities during the three-day event for the RAF.
Dr. Sanjeev Chadha, IFS, Director of Horticulture, Government of Odisha; Dr. S.S. Nanda, Dean of Extension, OUAT, Bhubaneswar; and Dr. Y.R. Meena, Additional Commissioner, DAC, Govrnment of India also shared their valuable remarks.
Prof. M. Kar, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar and Chief Guest of valedictory function emphasized upon the conservation of natural resources. He also distributed awards to progressive farmers, best stalls and winners of quiz, debate and Kisan Gosthi for their contribution during the fair.
Dr. B.N. Sadangi, Co-chairman; Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Organizing Secretary, Chairman and members of various committees extended their whole-hearted support for the success of the Regional Agriculture Fair.
Experts from CRRI, Cuttack; OUAT, Bhubaneswar; CIFA, Bhubaneswar; DRWA, Bhubaneswar; DWM, Bhubaneswar; CHES, Bhubaneswar; CARI, Bhubaneswar; Odisha State Department of Horticulture; Directorate of Industries, Odisha; Bihar Agriculture University, Bhagalpur; IIPR, Kanpur and other ICAR institutes participated in the programme.
