The 21st Annual Review Meeting of AICRP on Weed Control was organized at Directorate of Weed Science Research (DWSR), Jabalpur during 12-14th February, 2014.
Dr. L.S. Brar, Former Head, Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University was the Chief Guest of the meeting. He discussed the future challenges in agriculture like weed management under the regime of climate change. Dr. Brar stressed upon the farmer participatory mode of research at DWSR.
Dr. J.G. Varshney, Former Director, DWSR was the Guest of Honour. He expressed concern over weed management in rain-fed agriculture and also opined to undertake research in frontier areas like biotechnology and nano-technology for weed management.
Dr. R.K. Gupta, Head of Research Station Developments, Borlaug Institute for South Asia, Jabalpur addressed the challenge of producing more food from reducing land. He urged scientists to focus on managing national weed problems i.e., Parthenium, water hyacinth, Lantana, Orobanche etc.
Erlier, Dr. A.R. Sharma, Director, DWSR welcomed the participants and informed that weed control technology is the fasted adopted technology by the farmers. Dr. Sharma also stressed upon the practice of conservation agriculture.
Dr. R.P. Dubey, Principal Scientist, AICRP-Weed Control presented the research highlights of the project during 2013.
Publications viz. medicinal uses of weeds, weed management in kharif and rabi crops, problem and management of Orobanche in mustard, weed management in wheat were also released on the occasion.
The scientists of 22 coordinating and 4 volunteer centres participated in the meeting.
