Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute (CSWCR & TI), Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organized the Farm Innovators Day on 28th February, 2014.
Dr. S. Balaji, IFS, Managing Director, TANTEA, Coonoor was the chief guest of the function. In his address, he stated that along with crop cultivation farmers should include animal husbandry components. Dr. Balaji said that conservation of natural resources and to get high remunerations farmers should follow integrated farming system approach. He also stressed upon the adoption and use of new technologies in farms.
Shri Srinvas R. Reddy, IFS, Project Director, Hill Area Development Programme, Government of Tamil Nadu was the Guest of Honour. He called upon the farmers to utilize the new technologies emerging from the research station for their betterment.
Dr. P. Sunderambal, Senior Scientist, CSWCRTI, Ooty delivered the Key note address on the centres activity. She urged farmers to utilize the technologies developed in the research centre.
Earlier, Dr. K. Rajan, Scientist and Organizing Secretary of the function welcomed the gatherings and briefed about the programme.
Dr. P. Kumaravadivelu, Project Coordinator and Shri Avinashilingam, KVK, Karamadai, Coimbatore also gave their valuable remarks.
The programme was aimed to make platform for interaction among various stakeholders of soil and water conservation and livelihood support systems in watershed management.
Five innovative farmers in soil and water conservation were selected from the Nilgiris, Erode and Coimbatore districts and presented ‘The CSWCRTI Awards for Innovative Farmers in Soil and Water Conservation– 2014’.
About 50 farmers participated in the progarmme from various parts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Erode districts. Officials from UPASI, Horticulture department, Sericulture department participated in the function.
Dr. S. Manivannan, Senior Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
