ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre participated in the Agri-Horti Show, 2014 during 18th -19th January, 2014 at Saramsa Garden, Ranipool, Gangtok. The show was jointly organized by Food Security and Agriculture Development and Horticulture and Cash Crop Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim.
Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling, Chief Minister, Government of Sikkim inaugurated the show as the Chief Guest. He visited the show and appreciated ICAR Sikkim Centre’s stall. Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre briefed him about various technologies showcased along with its impact among farming community in the state. Chief Minister was accompanied by Shri D.N. Takarpa, Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Sikkim.
The impressive display of ICAR technologies viz., year-round vegetable cultivation under low-cost plastic tunnel, Jalkund for life saving irrigation, vermin composting, organic disease management, organic production technologies of different crops like ginger, Sikkim mandarin, kiwi fruit, cole crops; silage making technology, backyard poultry, live demonstration of low-cost agricultural implements, high value local germplasm, improved varieties of crops suitable for Sikkim, value-added products of finger millet, buckwheat, mushroom and red cherry; backyard poultry Vanaraja attracted visitors to ICAR stall. Over 5,000 farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders visited the stall.
