Mid Term Review and Action Plan Workshop of KVKs was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhakrani, Dehradun on 25-26 November, 2013. KVKs of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar; Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut; Vivekanand Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora; Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Pauri Garhwal and Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly participated in the workshop.
After the due deliberations, Coordinators and Senior Officials of Universities and ICAR brought out important recommendations for improvement and productivity enhancement in agriculture. The Programme Coordinators also presented the progress made by respective KVKs and accordingly action plan was formulated by incorporating the suggestions made by delegates keeping in view the existing situation of respective district.
For management of soil and water conservation in the changing scenario of shrinking land and water resources, it was realized to promote leguminous crops like soybean on the field bunds and also to minimize run off soil and water especially during rainy season. Large scale demonstration to involve the farmers on high sugar recovery varieties in sugarcane like COP-3220, CO-0238 recommended for plains of Uttarakhand among early group need to be organized.
Dr. A.K. Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-IV, ICAR, Kanpur; Dr. Y.P.S. Dabas, Director Extension Education, Pantnagar; Dr. Babu Ram, Director Extension, SVPUAT, Meerut and Programme Coordinators of 27 KVKs of Universities/Institutes were also present of on the occasion and gave their valuable suggestions on horizontal expansion of farmers friendly technologies in the respective districts of UP and Uttarakhand.
