National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM), New Delhi and Krishi Vigyan Kendra-II, Katia, Sitapur jointly organized a one-day training programme for Pesticide dealers at Sitapur under the theme ‘Knowledge Sharing in pesticide use and their application’ on 28th October 2013.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Chirantan Chattopadhyay, Director, NCIPM (ICAR) and Chief Guest highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing in integrated pest management. He urged farmers/dealers to avoid spurious pesticides due to which poor and marginal farmers fall prey to such cheap products and end up with low crop yield.
Dr. Sumitra, Principal Scientist, NCIPM informed that many pesticides are not easily degradable and it persist in soil, leach to groundwater and surface water and contaminate wild environment. Dr. Mukesh Sehgal, Principal Scientist, NCIPM explained about the repercussions of pesticide in nature.
Dr. Sanjay Arora, Senior Scientist, CSSRI, RRS, Lucknow emphasized upon Eco-Friendly Soil Health Management Practices and importance of Rhizosphere diversity with the use of safer pesticides or by Biopesticides.
Earlier Dr. Anand Singh, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK-II, Katia, Sitapur welcomed the dignitaries.
A scientists-company representatives/dealers-farmers interactive session was also organized.
A training manual for pesticides dealers published by NCIPM (ICAR) and two booklets published by KVK-II Sitapur were released on the occasion. Soil health cards of IPM farmers prepared by CSSRI, RRS, Lucknow were also distributed among the farmers.
Scientists of KVK, Sitapur, CSSRI, RSS, Lucknow and 41 farmers/dealers participated in the training session.
