Shri Ashish Bahuguna, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India inaugurated National Workshop on Outscaling Farm Innovation at NASC complex here today. While delivering the inaugural address as Chief Guest, Shri Bahuguna emphasized upon the farm innovation for better efficiency and effectiveness in agriculture. He said that the dissemination of technology and knowledge is the key to enhancement in agricultural production. Shri Bahuguna also applauded the Food Security Bill and pointed out the importance of farming community for success of this bill. He hoped that the deliberations of this workshop will be helpful in farm level innovations and promised full support from the Ministry of Agriculture in this regard.
In his special remark, Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) and Haryana Kisan Ayog stressed upon the targeted research for small and marginal farmers for increase in agriculture production. He also appreciated ICAR for innovative initiatives like Farmers First, Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) in 12th plan period.
While delivering the Chairman’s Remark on the occasion, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research appreciated the farmer community and said that we (scientists) do research in the laboratories but all of you (Farmers) are able to do new inventions and innovations while addressing different situations right in your fields.
Dr. H.S. Gupta, Director, Indian Agricultural Research Institute; Dr. R.R. Hanchinal, Chairperson, PPV & FRA and Shri Ajay Vir Jakhar, Chairman, Bharat Krishak Samaj also gave their valuable remarks. Dignitaries also released two publications on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering about the workshop.
This three-day (3-5 September, 2013) workshop is jointly organized by TASS, ICAR and Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI). Deputy Directors General, scientists, senior officials of ICAR, farmers and other host institutions are participating in this workshop.
