Punjab Chief Secretary appreciates the technologies developed by CIPHET

Punjab Chief Secretary Sh SC Aggarwal visited Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology, Abohar, to get the first hand information regarding development of various technologies and protocols in the food processing sector by the institute. The delegation was shown CIPHET video film and brief presentation about patents developed by the institute.

Accompanied by the senior functionaries of the state, Sh S C Aggarwal said that food processing sector could play a very crucial role in increasing farm GDP of the state. Taking keen interest in the technologies developed by the institute, he appreciated research output of the institute and emphasized that technologies developed here should reach the end users. He also discussed the various collaborative measures could be worked out with CIPHET and state agricultural departments to benefit farmers maximum.

CIPHET Director Dr R.T. Patil apprised the Chief Secretary Sh S C Aggarwal about the initiatives taken by the institute in the area of post harvest. “The value addition in food processing sector is higher than any other sector. CIPHET also carries out number of entrepreneurship development programmes to train farmers to set up their own units,” he informed S C Aggarwal, adding that technologies are licensed at very nominal rates to entrepreneurs. He also listed listed the various transfer of technology efforts undertaken by the institute in Abohar and surrounding areas such as kinnow packaging units, guava processing units, soy processing units etc .

The various pilot plants like amla processing, millets processing, cotton ginning, seed processing as well as kinnow waxing and packging units were shown to the dignitaries.  Chief Secretary and other officers also took keen interest in novel machines like custard apple peeler, ber destoner and guar gum processing units under development at Abohar centre.

The delegation included Divisional Commissioner Ferozepur Sh Raminder Singh, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Sh KK Yadav, Managing Director Punjab Agro Industries Sh Vikas Garg, SSP Sh Kaustab Sharma and SDM Sh Jasdeep Singh Aulakh.
