Shri SarbanandaSonowal, Chief Minister of Assam inaugurated the Pig Expo 2016organised by ICAR - National Research Centre on Pig, Rani here today.
Shri Sonowal,in his inaugural address expressed satisfaction for the initiative taken by ICAR for the development of Animal Husbandry in region particularly in Assam and also appreciated the ICAR-NRC on Pig for development of several new improved pig varieties and technologies like artificial insemination, etc. He urgedto develop the pig sector in a scientific way matching the global best practices to promote it as an enterprise that can provide employment to the youths of the region.
On this occasion, he released the compendium prepared for the Pig Expo 2016 and Cysvax,a vaccine developed for the prevention of cysticercosis by M/s Indian Immunologicals Ltd in collaboration with GAVL med, U.K. and Unversity of Melbourne, Australia.He also inaugurated anexhibition.
ShriAtulBora, Minister forAgriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Govt. of Assam, Sri Naba Kumar Doley, Minister for Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Assam, Sri Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Bimal Bora, Members of Legislative Assembly, Assam,Shri Ram Muivah, Secretary, NEC, Ministry of DoNER, Govt.of India, Dr K. M. Bujarbaruah, Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University graced the occassion as Guests of Honour.
Dr. H.Rahman, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR, New Delhi presided over the function and elaborated the role of ICAR in promoting pig production as livelihood support in the country. He urged the farmers to take the benefit of different technologies developed by ICAR-NRC on pig, and also advisory services for enhancing pig production in the regions.
Earlier, Dr. Dilip Kumar Sarma, Director, ICAR-NRC on Pig delivered welcome address.
More than one thousand farmers, researchers, academicians, developmental agencies, entrepreneurs, processors, consumers and other pig sector stakeholders from across the country especially from North eastern India participated in the Expo.
The two-day expo provided a platform for congregation of different players in pig value chain and thereby establish network between different entities for strengthening pig value chain.
ICAR Institutes, Agricultural Universities, and private organizations participated in the Exhibition.
