Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR-Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research, Bhimtal today and interacted with the Scientists of the Institute. He urged the scientists for translating their research efforts into fruitful technologies. Dr Mohapatra emphasized that fish stock of commercially important fishes should be characterized for better traits.
While inaugurating Mahseer broodstock rearing facility at the Hatchery Complex in Bhimtal, he suggested to enhance the stock of endangered mahseer through brood banking and large-scale seed production.
Dr Mohapatra inaugurated a six-day training programme on "Mahseer breeding and Hatchery Management". State fishery officials from 9 states besides fish farmers of Uttarakhand participated in the training programme.
The DG visited various laboratories and farm facilities and released three publications.
Dr Mohapatra was accompanied by Dr Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries).
Dr. A.K. Singh, Director, DCFR briefed the recent research activities of the Directorate.
Directors of ICAR Institutes were present on the occasion.
