Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR- Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Mukteswar campus. He addressed the scientists and staff of IVRI, DFMD, VPKAS and CITH on 2nd July 2016. Dr. Mohapatra appreciated ICAR-IVRI for developing large number of diagnostics and vaccines to control/eradicate various animal diseases, their current research activities and suggested to give emphasis on research in the areas of host resistance/ disease tolerance in the animals particularly the Indian breeds, genetic improvement of various indigenous livestock breeds, up gradation of local breeds, stem cell therapy and prevention and control of zoonotic diseases.
DG visited different laboratories, central library, museum, historical cold room and other modern facilities of IVRI, Mukteswar.
An interaction meeting was held on 3rd July 2016 with the scientists and staff of these institutes.
Dr. B. Pattnaik, Director, DFMD briefed on status of Foot and Mouth disease in India and research activities undertaken by the Directorate.
Dr. R. K. Singh, Director-cum-Vice Chancellor, IVRI, presented historical sketch of the Institute and its achievements, ongoing research on need based animal health and production aspects, education and extension activities being carried out by the Institute and its campuses.
Earlier, Dr B.P. Mishra, Joint Director (Research), IVRI, welcomed the dignitaries.
Dr Mohapatra also visited the laboratories of DFMD and farm including floriculture, vegetables and temperate fruits of regional station of ICAR-CITH.
