Farmers' Field Day Organized at Ranchi

Farmers’ field day-cum-training programme was organized at Hesapiri, Ranchi on 22nd March, 2014 under ICRISAT-ICAR Collaborating project ‘Tracking Changes in Rural Poverty through Household and Village Economies in South Asia’.

Addressing the inaugural session, Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna and the Chief Guest of the event suggested farmers to adopt low cost horticultural technologies to enhance their income. He also advised them to visit Saraitoli villages of the district, where farmers have adopted many improved agricultural technologies, like micro irrigation device, lac cultivation on kusum, tomato cultivation in rainy season, vegetable seed production, establishment of mango orchards, backyard goat and poultry farming etc.

Earlier, Dr. Abhay Kumar, Principal scientist and Co-PI of the project presented an overview of the project and activities being implemented under the project.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-RCER, RC, Ranchi emphasized on improved vegetables cultivation.

Dr. Bikas Das, Senior Scientist explained the technologies for improved cultivation of horticultural plants.

Dr J.S. Chaudhary, Scientist and Dr. Naresh Prasad, Project Director, ATMA, Ranchi including around 300 farmers and farm women participated in the programme.

Dr. R.C. Bharti, Principal Scientist and Co-PI of the project proposed vote of thanks.
