ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (IIFSR), Modipuram organized “Farmer’s Fair and Farm Field School” here today.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare while inaugurating the event urged the farmers to adopt improved technologies in sugarcane cultivation. He emphasized on conserving the water for agriculture and its purity for drinking purpose. He advocated custom hiring of improved implements in cultivation of sugarcane through co-operative society in the villages.
Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR and special Guest of the event briefed about the schemes being operated under the programme of agricultural extension. He also emphasized that there is need for improving the soil productivity, profitability of sugarcane based farming system and livestock production in the region.
Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Director, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi advised the farmers to take maximum benefit of Scientist-Farmers interaction meet.
Dr. Azad Singh Panwar, Director, ICAR-IIFSR highlighted the major programmes of the Institute for economic and livelihood security of farmers in the region.
Farmer friendly literature on various schemes of Government of India and improved agricultural technologies were released by the dignitaries.
About 5000 farmers belonging to 85 villages of Western U.P. participated in the programme.
