ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute along with its Eastern Regional Station, Kolkata and NGO Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Satra, Kamalabari, Majuli organized a one day Kisan Mela-cum-Technology Demonstration at Majuli (the biggest River Island of the world) in the Jorhat district of Asom on 19th January, 2016.
Shri Vishal Vasant Sholanki, Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat while inaugurating the mela emphasized on the importance of animal husbandry in upliftment of socio-economic strata of the farmers.
Dr A.K. Garg, Joint Director, IVRI, Izatnagar talked about technological advancement made by IVRI in the development of vaccines, diagnostics and other animal health and production aspects
Shri Janardan Dev Goswami, Satradhikar, Uttar Kamalabari Satra; Dr. A. Mitra, Director, NRC Mithun, Nagaland and Dr. S. Ray, Head, ICAR-NBSS & LUP, Jorhat were also addressed the farmers on the occasion.
Various local ICAR institutes and departments of Government of Asom exhibited their various technologies including agricultural farm implements & machinery in the mela.
Twenty progressive farmers were honored and awarded at this occasion.
An interface of the scientist and farmers was organized during the mela wherein various issues of farmers were addressed by scientists and experts.
In a special interaction session college students of different colleges of Majuli were educated about the role of Agriculture and Animal Science in career development and role of various zoonotic diseases and their prevention and control.
About 500 farmers and farm women from Majuli and its surrounding villages participated in the Kisan Mela.
