Annual Zonal Workshop of KVK Inaugurated at Gangtok, Sikkim

Shri. Somnath Poudyal, Minister of FSADD & HCCDD, Govt. of Sikkim inaugurated Annual Zonal Workshop of KVK, 2015-16 here today.

Shri Poudyal his inaugural address appreciated the efforts of KVKs in enhancing the agricultural production of the North East in general and Sikkim in particular. He also cautioned that, as the Sikkim becomes the Organic state, so the responsibility on the KVKs will enhance enormously for ensuring the sustainable food production in the state. 

Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Director, ATARI, Zone-III, Umiam briefed about the objective of the workshop.

Dr. Jitendra Chauhan, Scientific Advisor to MOA & FW, Govt. of India said KVK has become the life-time of the country in relation to Agriculture & Allied Sciences.

Shri Khorlo Bhutia, Secretary, FSADD & HCCDD, Govt. of Sikkim, in his address thanked the Chief Minister of Sikkim for converting the state into Organic state. He also requested to the Director, ATARI, Zone-III, Umiam for conducting different programmes on Organic Farming by the KVKs.

Dr. V.S. Thakur, Vice-Chancellor, Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan,  emphasized on the climate resilient crop production in the hills.

Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor CAU, Imphal, pointed out that challenges are many but we have to give our best efforts to achieve the Govt. of India’s aim to double the income of the farmers by 2022.

Dr. N.S. Rathore, DDG (Education), ICAR emphasized on the development of functional skills for the scientists of the KVKs. He urged the KVK to follow the concept i.e. Tradition, Technology, Talent & Trading in their functioning.    

Several publications of different KVKs were also released by the dignitaries.

Programme Coordinators of all the 78 Krishi Vigyan Kendras of North East participated in the Programme. This Programme will conclude on 25th April, 2016.
