A POSH Awareness Programme was successfully conducted at ICAR-National Meat Research Institute today in compliance with the guidelines issued by ICAR and the Government of India. The objective was to create awareness on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the Workplace and reinforcing the institute’s commitment towards ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Usha Dheram, President, Abhaya Association for Empowerment of Women, Hyderabad, delivered an insightful and engaging session on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH): Awareness and Implementation in the Workplace – Understanding the POSH Act and Employee Rights.” She comprehensively explained the legal framework of the POSH Act, 2013, the roles and responsibilities of employers and employees, the functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee, and the importance of timely reporting and redressal mechanisms. The session also sensitized participants on creating a culture of respect, zero tolerance towards harassment, and the need for collective vigilance to ensure a safe working environment for all.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad. He emphasized that compliance with POSH provisions is not merely a statutory obligation but a collective responsibility of every employee to uphold dignity and professionalism at the workplace.
This was followed by a presentation by Senior Scientist and Chairperson, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), ICAR-NMRI, on the key highlights of the ICAR Gender Strategy for National Agricultural Research, Education and Extension System (2025). The presentation underscored ICAR’s strong commitment to mainstreaming gender equity across all its institutions by integrating gender perspectives into research, education, and extension activities.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from scientists, technical and supporting staff, RA, SRF, and students.
