A one-day Workshop on Agro-Ecotourism was organised today at the Science, Technology and Industry Hub in Gaondongrem village, Canacona Block, South Goa. The event was jointly organized by The Energy and Resources Institute in collaboration with ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, NABARD, and the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), under a project funded by the Science for Equity, Empowerment and Development (SEED) Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The workshop aimed to introduce agro-ecotourism as a viable and sustainable livelihood opportunity for rural communities. The programme featured technical sessions led by experts from ICAR-CCARI, NABARD-Goa, and GTDC, focusing on agro-ecotourism models, integrated farming practices, and opportunities for synergizing tourism with agriculture.
A key highlight of the workshop was a joint proposal by farmers and stakeholders to develop Gaondongrem as a model agro-ecotourism village, centered on climate-resilient farming, nature-based tourism, and community-driven development.
The event concluded with a field visit showcasing agro-ecological farming practices, followed by interactive discussions with local farmers. The workshop served as an important platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative planning.

A total of 35 progressive farmers, including members of the Farmers Association–Jan Vikas Vividha Karyakaru Sahakari Seva Saunstha Maryajit, along with officials and experts from participating organizations, attended the programme.
The initiative marks a significant step toward making Gaondongrem a model of sustainable rural transformation in Goa.
