3 July 2025, Chennai

ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s. V. K. Aqua Feeds, Andhra Pradesh, for the transfer of its indigenous technology, CIBA EHP Cura Gro Plus.

This phytobiotic-based formulation has been developed to control and treat Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP), a microsporidian parasite responsible for significant economic losses in shrimp aquaculture. EHP has emerged as a major disease threat, causing an estimated annual loss of ₹4,000 crore to the shrimp farming industry in India.

After seven years of dedicated research, ICAR-CIBA scientists formulated CIBA EHP Cura Gro Plus to effectively manage EHP infections. The product has undergone extensive field validation across shrimp farms in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, and Gujarat. Trial results have demonstrated that the product significantly inhibits EHP proliferation, reduces Vibrio bacterial load, and improves shrimp immunity, survival, health, and growth.

During the signing event, Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA, highlighted the growing challenges posed by EHP and other diseases in shrimp aquaculture. He emphasized the significance of this innovation and its promising performance in real-farm conditions.
