State-Level Consultation on Combating Climate Crisis Organized in Bihar

ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, organized a State-Level Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on “Transforming Food, Land, and Water Systems to Combat the Climate Crisis”, bringing together scientists, policymakers, development agencies, and farmers to frame a roadmap for climate-resilient agriculture in Bihar today.

Dr. B. Rajender, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Bihar, inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest, emphasizing coordinated, “silo-free” action across departments to achieve Vision 2047. Highlighting the potential of millets, water-smart farming, and sector-specific strategies, he urged unified efforts to strengthen Bihar’s food, land, and water systems.

Shri Bharat Jyoti, IFS (Retd.), Chairman, Bihar State Biodiversity Board, called for biodiversity-based approaches, land pooling, blending of local and hybrid varieties, and integration of traditional wisdom with modern technologies.

In his welcome address, Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, stressed the urgency of adopting integrated, science-led solutions to address Bihar’s climate vulnerabilities, while ensuring that innovations reach farmers’ fields for long-term resilience and sustainability.

The event also witnessed the signing of a MoU between ICAR-RCER and the Asian Development Research Institute and the release of the Institute Newsletter. Progressive farmers actively contributed field-level insights during discussions.

Five thematic breakout sessions on climate-smart nutrition systems, watershed-based resilience, carbon farming, food land water nexus, and frontier technologies produced actionable recommendations, later consolidated in the plenary session chaired by Dr. Anup Das and co-chaired by Dr. S.K. Purbey.
