ICAR–IARI, Assam Organizes Field Day on IFS Models

ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Assam organized a Field Day cum Training Programme on Promotion of Scientific Integrated Farming System (IFS) Models in North East India today at the farmland of a progressive farmer, Shri Girija Prasad Doley, at Lotak village, Gogamukh, Assam. 

The programme was graced by the Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR–IARI, as the Chief Guest, while Shri Badan Lahan, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Dhemaji, attended as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao emphasized the pivotal role of ICAR–IARI, Assam in strengthening farmer-oriented research, technology dissemination, and capacity building for the benefit of farmers in Assam and the entire North-Eastern Region.

Shri Badan Lahan, SDO Dhemaji, apprised the farmers about different government schemes and support mechanisms available for agricultural development and livelihood enhancement.

During the programme, scientists highlighted the importance of Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) in enhancing farm income, resource-use efficiency, and sustainability, along with discussions on various aspects of farm mechanization suitable for small and marginal farmers of the North-Eastern Region.

As part of the programme, small farm implements, including hand weeders and tarpaulins, were distributed to farmers to promote efficient and cost-effective farm operations.

The programme reinforced ICAR–IARI, Assam’s commitment towards promoting scientific farming practices, integrated approaches, and sustainable agricultural development in the North-East.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 300 farmers from the surrounding areas.
