In a significant push toward sustainable agriculture, the ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa, in collaboration with the Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth, Kundai, has officially launched the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’. The campaign commenced with the planting of hybrid Napier fodder grass on a one-acre plot at Tapobhumi, Kundai, marking the start of an ambitious initiative set to expand to 200 acres across Goa over the coming year under natural farming.
The campaign was inaugurated by Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Addressing the gathering, Dr Kumar underscored the critical intersection of natural farming, livestock rearing, and systematic fodder management. He emphasized that such initiatives are essential for achieving sustainable agricultural development, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the strategic guidance of the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The plantation drive is strictly following natural farming methodologies designed to rejuvenate and improve soil health. Beyond agricultural productivity, the project aims to:
• Promote the widespread adoption of natural farming across Goa.
• Strengthen local cow conservation (Gauseva) initiatives.
• Preserve and revitalize India’s ancient ‘Rishi-Krishi’ traditions.
• Foster sustainable, long-term agricultural practices in the region.
Advocate Brahmideviji, President of the Satguru Foundation, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the inseparable bond between cow conservation, environmental protection, and India’s rich agricultural heritage. She urged the community to embrace natural farming practices, stressing that these methods are vital for creating a healthier, more resilient environment for future generations.
The inaugural event saw a strong turnout of stakeholders, including agricultural experts, researchers, and dedicated cow conservationists.
The campaign serves as a collaborative model, demonstrating how institutional research and community-led spiritual organizations can join forces to transform Goa’s agricultural landscape into a sustainable and eco-friendly model for the nation.
