Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Chowna Mein, Appreciates Millets Research at North Eastern State

The College of Agriculture, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh has successfully undertaken a major research and field-level intervention on millets under the AICRP on Sorghum & Millets, ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad.

The initiative focused on strengthening millet-based agriculture in the region through systematic research trials and field demonstrations, with special emphasis on foxtail millet. The exclusive trials on foxtail millet were conducted at the College of Agriculture, Pasighat, considering the agro-climatic suitability of Arunachal Pradesh.

The results of the trials showed promising performance in terms of adaptability and yield, highlighting the potential of millets as a climate-resilient crop for hill agriculture and nutritional security in the state.

The initiative was appreciated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Chowna Mein, for its contribution towards promoting millet cultivation and sustainable farming practices in the region.

The project is look after by Dr. Premaradhya N., Principal Investigator, Millet project College of Agriculture, Pasighat, and under the overall guidance of Dr. Sanjay Swami, Dean, College of Agriculture, Pasighat. The program is technically guided by Dr. R Madhusudhana, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Sorghum & Millets, along with active coordination and support from other scientists of ICAR–IIMR, Hyderabad.
