ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, organized a one-day brainstorming workshop on “Role of Agripreneurship in Viksit Bharat: Translating ICAR Technologies into Scalable Enterprises” today as part of activities under the ICAR–IARI Hyderabad Hub. The programme aimed to explore agripreneurship opportunities across key agricultural and allied sectors, with a special focus on encouraging youth participation in technology-driven enterprises.
The workshop was attended by Directors, scientists, and faculty members from all ICAR institutes and regional stations located in Hyderabad, including those under the ICAR–IARI Hyderabad Hub.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR–NMRI, emphasized the importance of working in tandem across institutions and described the initiative as a first step toward strengthening collaborative efforts to promote entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly in the meat sector. Subsequently, Dr. G. Ravindra Chary, Academic Coordinator (PG), IARI–Multidisciplinary Unit (MU), Hyderabad Hub, welcomed the dignitaries and participants and highlighted the critical role of entrepreneurship in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Dr. M. Muthukumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR–NMRI, highlighted the vast entrepreneurship potential in the meat sector and underscored the role of ICAR technologies in value addition, food safety, and employment generation. Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR–Directorate of Poultry Research, discussed entrepreneurial avenues in the poultry sector, focusing on improved breeds, processing technologies, and market-led innovations.
Dr. R. M. Sundaram, Director, ICAR–Indian Institute of Rice Research, elaborated on opportunities across the rice value chain, while Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research, highlighted the vast scope for millet-based enterprises. Further deliberations included climate-resilient and dryland agriculture enterprises by Dr. V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR–CRIDA.
Dr. Gopal Lal, Director, ICAR–NAARM, emphasized the need for supportive policy interventions to attract youth towards agripreneurship. Entrepreneurship opportunities in the oilseed value chain were discussed by Dr. A. L. Rathnakumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR–Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research. Dr. Shaik Meera, Director, ATARI, Hyderabad, highlighted the crucial role of extension systems in nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems, while Dr. L. Saravanan, Head, ICAR–NBPGR Regional Station, Hyderabad, emphasized the significance of plant germplasm in ensuring food security and enterprise development.

An interactive session, moderated by Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Principal Scientist and CEO, a-IDEA, ICAR–NAARM, facilitated engaging discussions among scientists, academicians, and participants on translating research outputs into viable and scalable business models.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. M. Muthukumar, Principal Scientist and Programme Convener, ICAR–NMRI. In the afternoon session, participants visited the ICAR–NMRI research facilities and gained first-hand exposure to advanced technologies and infrastructure supporting meat processing and value addition.
On this occasion, ICAR–NMRI signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with M/s Surya Teja Agro Farms, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, for collaboration on meat value addition. A total of 112 participants attended the workshop. The event reinforced ICAR’s commitment to promoting agripreneurship and fostering innovation-led enterprises for sustainable agricultural development and national growth.
