BIS and ICAR–NIBSM Organises Awareness Seminar on Standardization in Agro-Textiles

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi, in collaboration with ICAR–National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Raipur, organized a one-day Awareness Seminar on Standardization in Agro-Textiles today. The programme aimed to educate farmers and other stakeholders on the importance of standardized agro-textile products for enhancing agricultural productivity. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers across nearby regions.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P. K. Rai, Director, ICAR–NIBSM, who highlighted the institute’s initiatives and the expanding role of agro-textiles in modern agriculture.

Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Joint Director and Coordinator of the seminar, welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the programme. He also shared key information about standard agricultural agro-textile products and the importance of quality control.

A technical session led by Dr. Gaurav Mishra (Scientist B) from BIS, New Delhi, focused on mandatory Indian Standards for agro-textiles and related agricultural products, emphasizing their role in improving durability, efficiency, and overall output. Dr. Mishra also introduced the BIS Care App, demonstrating its utility in verifying product authenticity and reporting counterfeit items.

An interactive session provided participants the opportunity to engage with BIS experts and ICAR scientists on topics such as product quality checks, agro-textile applications, and irrigation efficiency. Farmers openly shared their experiences and challenges, while experts offered practical and field-relevant solutions.

The seminar was attended by over 100 farmers, who expressed appreciation for the valuable insights received and requested more such awareness programmes in the future. The event was smoothly coordinated by Dr. Mamta Chaudhary and Dr. K. C. Sharma, contributing to its successful conclusion.
