ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Rohtak Centre, organized an Interactive Farmers’ Meet on 26 October 2025, focusing on “Shrimp Harvest and Distribution of Genetically Improved Common Carp Seed to Farmers.”
Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During the programme, Dr. Jat distributed genetically selected, salt-tolerant Common carp seed to farmers and interacted with the participants. He also visited the Centre’s laboratories and farm facilities, commending the scientific and technical staff for maintaining excellent infrastructure and cleanliness. Appreciating the ongoing research and outreach initiatives, Dr. Jat suggested that the Centre be upgraded into a Centre of Excellence in the near future.
The event also witnessed participation from senior ICAR officials, including Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), and Dr. N. P. Sahu, Acting Director, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai. Officials from the state fisheries departments of Haryana and Rajasthan, including the Director, Department of Fisheries, Haryana; the Joint Director, Department of Fisheries, Rajasthan; the District Fisheries Officer, Rohtak; and the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Rajasthan, were also present.
As part of the programme, demonstrations on the harvesting of Penaeus vannamei and the culture of P. monodon were conducted. The interactive session provided a valuable platform for farmers to share field-level experiences, exchange knowledge, and discuss solutions to challenges in brackishwater aquaculture.
The meet witnessed active participation from farmers representing Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, who expressed appreciation for the scientific guidance and support extended by ICAR-CIFE, Rohtak.
