Pan-India Action Research Project on Spice Value Chains: Training on Sustainable Ginger and Turmeric Cultivation

As part of the Pan-India Action Research Project on the Improvement of Spice Value Chains, the ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, organized a three-day Capacity Building Programme on Sustainable Ginger and Turmeric Cultivation from September 9 to 11, 2025.

The training was inaugurated by Dr. R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IISR, followed by technical sessions led by the experts. These sessions highlighted advanced scientific and agronomic practices in ginger and turmeric cultivation. Participants also visited ICAR-IISR’s processing facility, where they were demonstrated modern spice processing technologies.

On the second day, participants undertook a field visit to the IISR Experimental Farm at Peruvannamuzhi, observing cultivation practices of major spices and associated processing methods. The team also visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, where they were explained intercropping systems and region-specific cultivation practices.

The third day featured an interactive session on upcoming project activities and Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs), where participants shared progress from their respective locations. This was followed by sessions on post-harvest operations and value addition in ginger and turmeric, emphasizing quality enhancement and market-driven strategies.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session, marking the successful completion of the training, and reinforcing ICAR-IISR’s commitment to strengthening spice value chains through knowledge dissemination and capacity building.
