ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Jute Corporation of India, Guwahati Region, organized five FLD-cum-input distribution programs on “NINFET-Sathi Retting Accelerator” across four districts of Assam (Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, and Kamrup) from 10th to 12th September, 2025, under the NEH region scheme.
The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among jute-growing farmers in remote villages about the improved retting process, enabling them to produce high-quality fibre and secure fair prices for their produce.

A live demonstration of NINFET-Sathi was conducted to provide hands-on training on its application and to highlight the advantages of using this ICAR-NINFET-developed technology. Alongside the demonstration, farmers were also briefed about the institute’s mandates, farmer-friendly technologies, ongoing schemes, and available training programs. The sessions provided a valuable platform for direct interaction, allowing farmers to clarify doubts and share their concerns.
Each FLD program witnessed active participation of about 100-120 farmers, reaching a total of nearly 550 farmers. In addition, 2.5 tons of NINFET-Sathi were distributed among participants. The program was a significant step toward promoting scientific jute retting techniques, enhancing fibre quality, and improving the economic returns of jute farmers in Assam.
