As part of the Government of India’s Climate-Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFVs) initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a scientist–fishermen interaction programme in Cacra village, one of the 100 coastal villages designated for transformation into climate-resilient fishing hubs.
The programme aimed to assess local requirements and introduce sustainable mariculture technologies suited to the region’s coastal ecosystem.
The event was attended by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI; Shri Vishwas Kadam, Deputy General Manager, NABARD Goa; and ICAR-CCARI scientists.
In his address, Dr. Parveen Kumar underscored the need for adopting climate-resilient aquaculture practices to reduce dependence on traditional capture fisheries. He emphasized the potential of mariculture to ensure long-term fish production and livelihood stability.
Shri Kadam outlined NABARD’s support mechanisms and urged cooperative members to maintain transparency, equitable responsibility-sharing, and collective accountability to ensure success.
The fishermen actively raised pertinent concerns related to cage durability, storm vulnerability, regulatory permissions, and conflicts with existing fishing activities.
A total of 15 Cacra Fishermen participated in the interaction.
