Smt. Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Cooperative, Government of Jharkhand, visited the ICAR-National Meat Research Institute (ICAR-NMRI), Hyderabad, accompanied by senior state officials to explore avenues for collaboration in meat processing and livestock development.

In her address, Smt. Tirkey commended the institute’s contributions to livestock and meat sector advancement. She emphasized the role of research in improving food security, nutrition, and rural livelihoods, particularly for tribal communities. The Minister expressed keen interest in reviving a bacon factory in Jharkhand, establishing poultry processing units, and developing a state-specific “farm-to-fork” model.

During the visit, Smt. Tirkey toured key facilities including the Meat Processing Plant, Model Slaughterhouse, Rendering-cum-Pet Food Plant, and Semi-Automatic Poultry Processing Unit. Demonstrations highlighted ICAR-NMRI’s advanced technologies and practices in meat science and processing.
Dr. S.B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, presented an overview of the institute’s research activities and innovations. He assured full support for strengthening Jharkhand’s meat processing infrastructure and human resource development.
