ICAR-NAARM organises IFS Training for SCSP Farmers

ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, organized a 5-day Skill Development Training Programme on Integrated Farming System for the farmers under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan at ICAR-Krishi Vignan Kendra, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, from 12th-16th February 2024.

Dr. K.T. Gurumurty, Director of the extension at KSNUAHS, Shivamogga, emphasised the role of allied components in the integrated farming system to enhance farm income, livelihood security for farm women, and modern cattle reproductive techniques for higher milk production. He urged adopting different cropping patterns, crop diversity, agro-forestry, horticulture, dairy, sheep and goat, sericulture, etc. for getting income around the year.

Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist & Chairman, SCSP ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, spoke about the smart integrated farming system models for efficient resource utilization, increased net profit, rural employment, and reducing malnutrition. He highlighted the importance of IFS in resource utilization and provided an example of a one-acre model for smallholding farmers to plan components.

Dr. G.K. Girjesh, Sr. Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Shivamogga, highlighted the importance of the Integrated Farming System and the various technologies provided by KVK.

Important critical inputs were distributed to all the trainees as initial support to take up the IFS model on a small scale during the Valedictory program

A total of 37 participants including 6 women participants from various districts of Karnataka participated in the programme.
