Agriculture Minister inaugurates 26th Zonal Workshop of KVKs under Zone - IX

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare inaugurated the 26th Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Zones comprising of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh organized by the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chhattarpur, Khajuraho here today. The KVK has organized the Workshop from 27th to 29th July, 2019.

Shri Tomar appreciated the KVKs’ work done for the speedy progress of agriculture in the state along with the tribal region. He urged for working in a convergence mode and plan proper production coupled with marketing strategies for doubling the farmers’ income. The Minister stressed on the need for making the farmers more aware and knowledgeable on the newly developed technology along with proper skill for their better application.

Shri Tomar also visited the Exhibition of KVKs depicting the technological modules for doubling the farmers’ income and the value-added products developed by KVKs and progressive farmers.

Smt. Archana Chitnis, Former Minister, Women and Child Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh emphasized on the need to improve the resource use efficiency in the agriculture and create the awareness of Nutrition literacy.

Shri Vishnu Dutt Sharma, Member of Parliament, Khajuraho Lok Sabha Constituency highlighted about the benefits that the farmers have received from the KVK’s technical advice, seed and planting materials.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, New Delhi briefed about the new initiatives of KVK@150 for the technology application related to the micro-irrigation and balanced nutrition for soils. Dr. Singh also underlined the ICAR’s new initiatives in the form of NARI, VATICA, KSHAMTA, etc., for the empowerment of women and tribal farmers and linking the KVKs with the common service centres.

Prof. S.K. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior urged for focusing on the production and productivity of oilseeds.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Bisen, Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur applauded the KVKs’ work and performance in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh that is being acknowledged of the National level.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur underlined the Zone - IX, KVKs’ significant achievements. He highlighted the KVKs’ role in the direction of doubling the farmers’ income, nutrition sensitive agriculture through nutri-SMART villages, climate resilient technologies, tribal focused intervention under KSHAMTA marketing through SHGs and FPOs.

3 Mobile Apps by the KVK Jhabua, Raisen, Bankhedi were launched on the occasion.

The occasion also marked the releasing of Publication titled ”Agri-waste Recycling through Bio-Waste Decomposer” along with two news letters by the ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur and 11 Publications of KVKs.

A total of 300 participants including Vice-Chancellors of SAUs, Directors of ICAR Institutes, Representatives from NGOs, Officials from ICAR, Heads and Scientists from KVKs and Innovative farmers participated in the workshop.
