A farmer scientist interaction programme on ‘Promotion of Secondary Agriculture in Assam for Enhancing Farm Income and Livelihood Security’ was collaboratively organized by the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Dirpai Chapori, Gogamukh, Dhemaji, Assam, and the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal, Haryana (under the NEH Component) today at Ghilamara, Lakhimpur. The programme aimed to promote secondary agricultural activities among farmers in the northeastern region, within the broader framework of the Integrated Farming System. The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director and Vice-Chancellor, IARI-Assam.
The Chief Guest, Shri Aswini Kalita, Superintendent, Sericulture, Dhakuakhana, highlighted the evolving scenario of sericulture in the context of climate change.

The Guest of Honor, Smt. Mandira Borborah, ADO, Dhakuakhana, urged the farmers and rural youth to pursue agriculture as a profitable venture.
Farm inputs such as Eri spinning machines, sprayers, biofortified rice varieties, vermi-beds, turmeric, and som saplings were distributed among the farmers during the program. A book entitled “Scientific Management of IFS and Secondary Agriculture in the Context of Northeast India” was also released during this programme.
A total of 60 farmers attended and benefited from the programme.
