ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, organized a one-day workshop on ‘Package of Practices for Rabi Crops’ at its Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh.
The programme was designed for officers from the State Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, with the objective of equipping field-level extension personnel with the latest knowledge on varietal advancements, recommended agronomic practices, and insect–pest identification and management for major Rabi crops in hill ecosystems.

Participants were briefed on recent technological developments, ongoing crop improvement initiatives, and scientifically proven crop production and protection measures relevant to the Himalayan region.
Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR–VPKAS, assured that future workshops would be organized for longer durations spanning two days and scheduled during mid-crop seasons in both Rabi and Kharif. This, he stated, would allow participants to observe standing crops and field demonstrations directly at the institute farm. He also encouraged officers to communicate field-level challenges faced by farmers, assuring the institute’s full support in addressing them.
The technical sessions covered improved varieties of Rabi cereals and vegetables, production and protection technologies, efficient water management practices, and seed production techniques. Experts responded to all queries raised by the participants.

During the valedictory session, participants shared positive feedback and expressed the need for extended-duration training programmes.
A total of 33 officers from the districts of Almora, Tehri, Champawat, and Nainital took part in the workshop.
