ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, in collaboration with ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture, organised a two-day workshop titled “Students’ Guide to Science Communication” on 7–8 May 2026 at the Prof. M.S. Swaminathan Library Conference Hall, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi.
The Chief Guest of the workshop Dr Ch Srinivas Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, lauded the collaborative initiative of IARI and DKMA and underscored the growing importance of science communication skills for agricultural students aspiring to build careers in both the public and private sectors. He suggested that such programmes should be conducted regularly on a quarterly basis and highlighted broader initiatives undertaken by IARI, including Industry Meets aimed at strengthening academia–industry linkages for research collaboration, CSR partnerships, and student placements.

In her opening remarks, Dr Anupama Singh, Dean & Joint Director (Education) ICAR-IARI emphasised the significance of the workshop and outlined its objectives, focusing on enhancing students’ presentation skills, scientific writing, and research visibility.
Subsequently, Dr Anuradha Agrawal, Project Director, ICAR-DKMA presented an overview of the workshop and advocated for the inclusion of science communication as a regular component of the academic curriculum for students.
The first day of the workshop featured a series of technical sessions on “Mastering Research Presentations”, essential academic writing skills under “Write to be Read”, and “Pitching with Purpose”, which focused on effectively communicating research outcomes and innovations to diverse audiences.

The second day included insightful sessions on “Through the Editor’s Lens: Crafting Better Manuscripts”, manuscript preparation techniques, and the use of artificial intelligence tools for documentation and science communication. Experts also deliberated on “Ethics in Research Writing” and conducted an interactive session on leveraging social media platforms to enhance research outreach and public engagement.
The valedictory session included participant feedback and concluding remarks by the workshop coordinators from IARI and DKMA. Certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees upon completion of the programme.
The workshop witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 40 MSc and PhD students from ICAR-IARI. The programme successfully equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills in research communication, scientific writing, AI-assisted documentation, and ethical research practices.
Participants appreciated the well-structured, interactive, and highly relevant nature of the workshop, while commending the organisers and resource persons for delivering an informative and impactful learning experience.
