ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, in collaboration with AGRI Matrix India Pvt. Ltd., Goa, organized a Training-cum-Awareness Programme on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan: Soil Test-Based Fertilizer Application for Sustainable Soil Health Management” at the Smart Village Centre, Pilgao, North Goa, today.
The programme was chaired by the Sarpanch of Narve Village, the Deputy Sarpanch of Pilgao Village, and Panch Member.
During the programme, the participants were educated on the importance of soil testing as a scientific tool for balanced fertilizer application and sustainable soil health management.
The session emphasized the need for soil test-based nutrient recommendations, balanced use of fertilizers, integrated nutrient management, and the incorporation of organic manures to enhance soil fertility, improve nutrient-use efficiency, and sustain crop productivity.
The Fertilizer Calculator Goa mobile application developed by ICAR-CCARI was demonstrated, highlighting its utility in generating site-specific fertilizer recommendations for farmers based on soil test results.
A total of 35 farmers, comprising 12 male and 23 female participants, attended the programme. The farmers actively participated in the discussions and expressed keen interest in adopting soil test-based nutrient management practices for improving soil health and achieving sustainable agricultural production.
The programme successfully strengthened awareness among farmers on the judicious use of fertilizers, conservation of soil resources, and environmentally sustainable farming practices, thereby contributing to the long-term sustainability of agriculture in the region.
