Stakeholder and Buyer-Seller Meet Organized to Boost Export of Malda Mangoes

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Malda, organized a Stakeholders’ Interactive Meet on Export Promotion of Malda Mangoes-cum-Buyer-Seller Meet in hybrid mode to strengthen the export prospects of the region's mango varieties.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, emphasized the use of label-claimed pesticides and judicious fertilizer application to ensure residue-free produce. He urged for special focus on the export of Malda’s GI-tagged mango varieties Lakshmanbhog, Fazli, and Himsagar to enhance farmers’ income.

Representatives from the Malda Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the role of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), branding, and marketing for tapping premium export markets.

Scientists from ICAR-CISH KVK, demonstrated key ICAR-CISH innovations such as Fruit Bags, Mango Harvesters, and the Fasal Prabhat system, promoting GAP compliance for export-quality production.

Representatives from two Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), shared their experiences in promoting improved technologies among fellow farmers.

An exhibition showcased ICAR-CISH technologies and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) tools, including sticky traps, pheromone traps for fruit flies, and comparative displays of bagged vs. unbagged mangoes to highlight the benefits of these interventions.

Over 50 progressive mango farmers from regions including Fulbari, Hariyakuri, English Bazar, Kaliachak, and Old Malda attended the event, gaining valuable insights into export readiness and quality enhancement practices.
