Skill Development Programme on Backyard Poultry Organized by ICAR-NAARM

27th - 31st December 2022, Namakkal

To enhance the livelihood through income generation by having a self-employment activity for farmers. ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organized five days Skill Development training programme on “Backyard Poultry” under SCSP in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), TANUVAS Namakkal, Tamil Nadu for SC farmers from 27- 31st December 2022.

40 Scheduled Caste farmers from Naraikinaru, Thoosur, Muttanchetti, Pillipakuttai, and Muthugapatti villages of Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu participated in the programme.  The farmers participated actively in all sessions of the program and were educated on various aspects of backyard poultry rearing.

Dr. Ch.Srinivasa Rao,  Director, ICAR-NAARM in the inaugural address stated that introducing improved backyard poultry varieties, as well as scientific skill development for farmers in feeding, housing, disease prevention, and management, will increase rural farmers' income and living standards and distributed poultry kits to farmers.

Dr. M.Selvaraju, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal enlightened the trainees towards adopting the Backyard Poultry Farming successfully as an income generation activity.

Dr. V.Apparao Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS, Chennai in his address highlighted that the backyard poultry farming can boost up family income as it involves low-cost investment but gives higher economic returns.

Earlier, Dr. S. Alagudurai, Associate Professor & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal delivered the welcome address.

In the valedictory program, Aseel chicks and feeders were distributed to the participants.
