SHG/FPO Interface Held under Khet Bachao Abhiyan at ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar

Under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar organized a one-day awareness programme on “Use of Biofertilizers and Azolla for Reducing Chemical Fertilizer Usage in Vegetable and Crop Production” today. The programme aimed to create awareness among women farmers from Scheduled Caste (SC) communities of Khordha district on biofertilizers and sustainable agricultural practices.

Dr J. K. Sundaray, Director (I/C), ICAR-CIFA, emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture through the adoption of biofertilizers and natural farming techniques.

Technical sessions included expert lectures on the role of biofertilizers in soil health management, climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices for women farmers, and the benefits of natural farming. The participants also visited live demonstration units on vermi-compost, azolla production and organic fish production, and interacted with experts during the programme.

Around 80 participants, including 40 members each from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), attended the programme. The participants were encouraged to further disseminate the message of the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” among farmers and farm women in their communities.
