Rathindra KVK Celebrates Agricultural Education Day with a Focus on Agripreneurship for a Future-Ready Generation

Rathindra Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan, Birbhum, observed Agricultural Education Day in hybrid mode in collaboration with West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata today. The programme, themed ‘Unlocking Agripreneurship: Empowering the Next Generation,’ highlighted agriculture’s expanding opportunities driven by innovation and technology, with experts underscoring the vital role of youth in shaping sustainable, modern agri-food systems.

Dr. Swarup Kumar Chakraborty, Former Vice-Chancellor, UBKV and Convenor, WAST, inspired participants to embrace agri-entrepreneurship for rural transformation. He stressed the need for scientific thinking, innovation, and youth leadership in modern agriculture. Dr. Chakraborty highlighted blending traditional wisdom with technology and exploring opportunities in value addition, agri-tech, and climate-resilient farming.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR–ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the vast agripreneurship opportunities emerging for today’s youth. He stressed the shift from job seeking to job creation, underscoring the growing demand for skilled agri-based start-ups. Citing successful KVK models from Eastern India, Dr. Dey inspired participants to leverage institutional support, digital tools, and government schemes to build sustainable enterprises.

Experts from RKVK delivered insightful technical sessions on precision farming, farm mechanization, agri-business incubation, and market-oriented innovations. Success stories of emerging agripreneurs were shared to motivate participants and provide real-world perspectives.

The Head, RKVK, Birbhum coordinated the whole programme. Interactive discussions, hands-on demonstrations, and experience-sharing sessions enabled students to understand practical dimensions of enterprise development. The hybrid mode allowed broad-based participation, expanding the reach of the programme.

With the participation of 107 individuals, the event concluded with a collective call to empower youth to perceive agriculture not merely as a profession, but as a dynamic entrepreneurial landscape essential for the nation’s economic and social progress.
