A scientific team from ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) jointly visited Gajapitha village in Marshaghai Block of Kendrapara district, a NICRA–TDC village, to assess the post-flood situation and support the restoration of agricultural and rural livelihoods.
The team reviewed the post-flood agricultural conditions, discussed immediate contingency measures with farmers and planned agricultural interventions for the upcoming crop season. Emphasis was placed on strengthening climate resilience and enabling affected farming households to recover their livelihoods sustainably.

As part of the livelihood support initiative, KVK Kendrapara handed over essential processing machinery—solar dryer, automatic badi-making machine, 3-phase wet grinder and mini flour mill—to the Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) for use by two Self-Help Groups (SHGs), in accordance with approved guidelines. The equipment is expected to facilitate value addition, enhance income-generating opportunities and create sustainable livelihood avenues for the participating women.
The initiative goes beyond production technologies by strengthening the capacity of farmers and SHGs to cope with climate and market uncertainties. Value addition, improved marketing linkages and convergence with local enterprises are being promoted to enhance income and build sustainable livelihoods.

The programme was attended by around 35 farmers and SHG members, who were sensitised on post-harvest value addition and the cultivation potential of MTU 1232, a rice variety suited to areas experiencing recurrent submergence.
The intervention reflects the integrated approach under NICRA–TDC to strengthen climate-resilient agriculture, livelihood diversification and community-level preparedness in vulnerable farming regions.
