“Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Zone - V” organized

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata organized the “Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Zone - V” at West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal from 27^th to 29^th May, 2022.

Shri Biplab Mitra, Minister-In-Charge, Agricultural Marketing Department, Government of West Bengal complimented the KVKs for their contributions in the development of farm sector through the transfer of technology and services rendered to the farming community. The Government of West Bengal’s initiatives in creating the marketing avenues and strengthening infrastructure facilities for the realization of good prices of farmers’ products were also highlighted by the Minister.

Dr. Jayanta Roy, Member of Parliament, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal accentuated on the KVKs, Farmers and Agricultural Scientists’ untiring contributions have ensured the continuous supply of essential food items during the challenging times of COVID-19 Pandemic also.

In his valedictory address, Prof. S.K. Chakrabarti, Vice-Chancellor, Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Cooch Behar, West Bengal urged for implementing the recommendations made during the workshop.

Virtually addressing the Zonal Workshop, Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR regarded the KVK as an important organ in the ICAR system that is delivering commendably throughout the country by communicating with the farmers and convincing them in adopting the new technologies.

Swami Shri Atmapriyananda Ji Maharaj, Pro-Chancellor, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, District - South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, West Bengal stressed on the need of translational research from the lab-to-home over the traditional concept of lab-to-land. He emphasized on the concept of “One Health” with Soil-Plant-Animal-Human continuum (SPAH) based on the principle of Ekatwa or oneness.

Prof. Chanchal Guha, Vice-Chancellor, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, West Bengal urged the KVKs to take special interest in adopting the climate-resilient technologies in the scenario of the climate change.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. S.K. Roy, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata outlined the activities and achievements of KVKs of Zone - V in 2021-22.

A total of 59 KVKs of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha and West Bengal participated and presented their Progress Reports (2021-22) and Action Plan (2022-23).
