The 9th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Leh was held on 18th September 2011 at Stakna, Leh under the chairmanship of Prof. Tej Partap, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir. Dr. K.D.Kokate, Dy. Director General (Extension), ICAR was the Chief Guest while Shri Sonam Dorjay Executive Councillor (Agri) LAHDC, Leh was the guest of honour. Dr. Kokate, DDG (Agril. Ext.) in his address expressed his happiness over the overwhelming response and satisfaction of the farming community with regards to activities of KVK and the strides made in technology adoption especially by the farm women. He desired that KVK should also obtain brand names for agricultural products which are specific to Ladakh for making farming more remunerative. Sh. Sonam Dorjay, Executive Councillor (Agri.) desired strong linkages between the line departments and KVKs and the need to make farming market oriented. He said that efforts are being made for post harvest processing of horticultural goods with strong financial support.
The chairman in his concluding remarks informed that efforts are being made to improve SKUAST Kashmir units in Ladakh with good financial and manpower support. Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (AE) also visited the site at Nobra valley where additional KVK in Leh district is being proposed by the University.
