Two awareness programmes for the rural youth attached with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan (NYKS) were organized on Entrepreneurial Opportunities through Agriculture and Allied Sectors for Budgam(15 September) and Pulwama(16 September) districts of J&K in collaboration with Ministry of Youth affairs & Sports, Government of India and Indian Council of Agricultural Research at CITH, Srinagar and JK Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Pampore respectively.
Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agril. Extn.), ICAR was the chief guest. He advised rural youth to form community based Self Help Groups and prepare bankable projects for such enterprises. He also remarked that enterprises will create rural youth employment which will ultimately work for social harmony.
Mr. Saleem Ahmed, Director General, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan (NYKS) briefed about concept of Nehru Yuva Kendra and various policies of Government of India with regard to entrepreneurial development and employment generation.
Dr. Tej Pratap, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST(K), Srinagar urged the Director General, NYKS to help the rural youth for linking them with banks which is major bottleneck for taking up these enterprises.
Dr. A.M. Narula, ZPD, Zone-I and Dr. Afifa S. Kamili, Director of Extension Education, SKUAST(K) also addressed the audience on this occasion.
Chaudhary M. Atif, Zonal Director, NYKS, J&K; Mr. Uday Prakas Singh, Deputy Director, NYKS; Programme Coordinators of KVKs of SKUAST(K) and officials of NYKS of J&K participated along with more than 200 rural youths attached with NYKS.
The rural youth were apprised about various entrepreneurial opportunities through agriculture and allied sectors like hybrid seed production of vegetable crops, nursery raising of vegetables and fruits, high value vegetable production, marketing and minimal processing, mushroom cultivation, poultry production, dairy farming etc. by resource persons from CITH, Srinagar, KVK Srinagar and KVK Pulwama.
